The first number: diameter
The first number is the approximate outside diameter of the neck thread in millimetres. A 24/410 neck is about 24 mm across the threads.
The second number: thread style
The second number describes the thread finish. Under the common standard, 400 is a shorter finish with about one full thread turn, 410 has about one and a half turns, and 415 is taller with about two turns.
Why it matters
A closure must match both numbers. A 24/410 pump will not seal properly on a 24/415 bottle, even though the diameter is the same.
How to check
Use the supplier's drawing or measure the thread with calipers, and test the actual bottle and closure together before production.
